IBA Annual Litigation Forum 2026: Insights on Cross-Border Disputes

Our partner Socrates Ioannou Kitsios attended the International Bar Association Annual Litigation Forum, held in Madrid from 15 to 17 April 2026.

The forum brought together leading litigators, in-house counsel and members of the judiciary to examine the evolving landscape of cross-border disputes, with particular emphasis on the impact of geopolitical developments on international litigation.

Discussions focused on a number of key themes, including the increasing fragmentation of global litigation, the growing influence of national security considerations on commercial disputes, and the challenges posed by competing jurisdictions and regulatory regimes.

Sessions also explored the longer-term legal consequences of geopolitical conflict, particularly the potential for claims arising years after underlying events, as well as the changing role of litigators in light of technological developments, digital evidence and the use of artificial intelligence.

Further panels addressed the continuing evolution of collective redress mechanisms and class actions across jurisdictions, alongside a comprehensive overview of recent developments in transnational litigation, including jurisdictional competition, litigation funding and regulatory scrutiny.

Attendance at forums such as this forms part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to staying at the forefront of developments in international dispute resolution and ensuring we continue to deliver informed, commercially focused advice to clients involved in complex, cross-border matters.
